Explore the Different Types of Floss
Maintaining the best oral health involves flossing regularly. Fortunately, there are many different types on the market to help people keep their teeth white and clean.
Here is a list of different types of floss currently available:
Unwaxed floss
This thin nylon material easily fits the tight spaces between teeth. Hence, it’s a good choice for anyone with tightly knit teeth. The main con of using unwaxed floss is the high chance of breaking or shredding. However, it’s preferred because it can absorb some food particles, making it easy to remove them.
Waxed floss
Waxed floss consists of nylon material, just like unwaxed floss. The main difference is the wax coating that makes it stronger. It doesn’t break easily. This is not the ideal choice for those who have tight spots between their teeth. The wax makes it thicker compared to the unwaxed option. Waxed floss doesn’t get stuck between teeth easily.
Dental tape
Tape floss or dental tape is ideal for widely spaced teeth. Dental tape is much broader and thicker than conventional dental floss options. There are fewer chances of breaking or fraying, making working on either side of the teeth easier.
Polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) floss
PTFE slides between the teeth easier than other options. It is a good choice for flossing crowded teeth or challenging formations. Before using this floss option, consult a dentist for evaluation. This is because the material used can compromise the human immune system.
Floss picks
Floss picks are maneuverable and easy to use. Typically, they have two plastic ends and a piece of floss in between. Floss picks are a good choice for everyone, especially those dealing with dexterity issues.
Super floss
The material used here is yarn-like. This is the best choice for cleaning dental bridges or around braces. Super floss consists of stiff sections at each end. This allows rigorous flossing even when dental bridges and braces are present.
Water flosser
A water flosser shoots a water streak in the gum line and between teeth. This has a massaging effect that removes food particles and plaque. Anyone with bridges and braces can find it convenient.
Flavored floss varieties
Most people have a favorite flavor when it comes to toothpaste. If so, going for flavored dental floss is a good idea. Flavored floss options appeal to children who may not be too fond of flossing. If the flavored options are not as appealing, unflavored varieties are available.
Make the right choice
Regular and proper flossing helps prevent many oral health issues like periodontal disease. Different floss types are available, making choices based on health or dental needs easier. Ultimately, flossing can’t be overlooked and is highly recommended.
